![]() ![]() Here we have a very hosed up and sexually horny later game boss, Valentina. I could see the eyes, and I could see the round thing on top, but a lot of the details were lost in how I was playing and I thought Mack was the very ornate hilt of a springy sword. He is a little knight with a jack o lantern type face riding a bladed pogo stick with eyes. But back in the day I had a very incorrect perception of a few characters. SUPER MARIO RPG ROM TVNowadays you're playing an emulator in scaled up HD or at the very least are playing an SNES on a TV screen bigger than a nerf soccer ball, so it's pretty easy to tell what the little 3d models are. One very unique aspect of playing that game for the first time as a kid is something sort of lost to the sands of time: trying to discern what some of the enemoes were supposed to be when playing on an snes hooked up by coaxis cables to an 8 inch crtv. Is it just me or did this game also suffer from that jRPG translation/space thing where item and spell descriptions were just really hard to understand? I remember as a kid not really understanding what half the thing did, but maybe that was because I was just a young’n.or I’m projecting from like CT/FF6Ĭrazyweasel fucked around with this message at 13:04 on Oct 20, 2019 ![]() I guess Paper Mario and Mario & Luigi continued the saga of Mario based RPGs, but Square just absolutely killed it during that stretch. I was sad that nothing like it ever popped up again. Only downside was that as a kid I was an item hoarder (Read: Being at the end of an FF game and still not using Megalixirs because “I may need them later”) so the limited inventory space frustrated me.Īlso shout out to fun sound design, the tune for Geno’s little Forrest area, and hidden boss Culex! I too still can’t believe Geno isn’t in Smash. I couldn’t believe an actual attack was throwing Mario, hahah, what great design. I loved the humor in it and the fact it was a pretty short but enjoyable game, also I was a huge Bowser fan so to be able to actually play as him was AWESOME. My older brother was an RPG fiend, so this was a definite staple of my childhood. ![]() i really like the paper mario games too but they feel more like rpgs where you can jump rather than platformers themselves the music and rpg mechanics get talked up a lot but i feel like people often overlook how good a job square did in translating platforming elements into an rpg. as a kid i was just like "oh cool another mario game" but as i keep revisiting it over the years, i keep finding more and more to like about it. This was the first jrpg i ever played and is probably why I'm still so into the genre. Nintendo, make Geno playable in Smash Ultimate, you cowards. It's completely worth tracking the game down though if you've never played it. Since the SNES Classic is incredibly hard to find now, the best way to play the game nowadays is through an emulator and finding the ROM. Another cool thing about the game was that that the party list included getting to play as Bowser, and Peach. A lot of that might have to do with Square-Enix sharing the rights to the game, but hopefully it'll eventually be available for Nintendo Switch. Nintendo has only ever made it available on the Wii eShop, and Super Nintendo Classic. ![]() Despite being one of the most popular games on the system, as far as I know anyways! To this day its probably one of the most ignored of the major SNES releases. It followed up massive hits like Final Fantasy VI, and Chrono Trigger. This is when Square was at their absolute best, creating some of the best JRPGs ever. It was also a Square developed JRPG based on the Mario license. What made the game so great was one, it's artistic style was really unique for the time, it also looked amazing for an SNES title, and still holds up incredibly well 24 years later. It came out near the end of the SNES life, and I think may have been one of the last major titles for the system? The Nintendo 64 would come out in America that September, so Nintendo was focusing all of its resources on that system at that point. This was one of my favorite Super Nintendo games. ![]()
